Workshop Details
Welcome to our Half-day Night Photography workshop, "The Art of Seeing what you Can't See" in Central Saanich, Vancouver Island.
My goal with this workshop is to open your creative spirit to create amazing long exposure images right here at home on the Island and at an affordable price.
I will also guide you through the technical process to create those beautiful long exposure images you are aiming to create.

Event is weather permitting. If overly cloudy or raining, back up date is Aug 23, 2020 (same time).

- technical process to create night photography images - how to compose night images when you can't see at night - how and when to create composite images for night photography - and the option to use a night photography filter to reduce light pollution |
Face Masks & Hand Cleaning Supplies IncludedFace masks and hand cleaning supplies are included with the workshop fee if you desire.
Due to COVID requirements, if you have been sick in the last 14 days or have been with anyone that has been sick or in quarantine for the last 14 days, please do not attend the workshop. |
BONUS!BONUS 45 minute Zoom session for each individual participant for post processing techniques on your favourite image you took during the workshop.
This can be scheduled within 30 days following the workshop. |

General good physical condition is required for our workshops.
This particular workshop has very little hiking and walking involved with near drive up access available.
If you have mobility concerns please contact Matt or Dave directly for clarification.
What IS included:
- photography instruction from both Matt & Dave
- snack bars (gluten free included)
- bottled water
- demo Breakthrough Photography Night Sky Filter
What is NOT included:
- your own personal camera gear and tripod (tripod is essential for night photography)
- transportation to Central Saanich
- medical insurance (mandatory if you reside outside of BC, Canada)
What to bring:
- camera body (full frame preferred but not essential)
- 1-2 memory cards (depending on the size you have)
- wide angle lens such as 14-30mm f/2.8-4 is best or close to it
- mid range zoom such as 24-70mm f/2.8-4 is best or close to it
- the phone app PhotoPills is excellent for this workshop and very easy to use. Both Matt & I have the app so you can try it before deciding if you would like to buy it from the App Store.
- camera bag (at least water resistant) - camera rain cover, just in case
- lens clothes (can be misty as the air cools over warm land)
- headlamp or flashlight for light painting (soft LED's or an phone light can work too)
- water bottle
- light sweater / jacket as it can cool off at night
- hiking boots or good runners
- toque or hat
- tripod (ESSENTIAL for night sky photography)
- cable release or remote for night photography is useful if you want to experiment with star trails or just like to have "hands off" approach with using your camera.
- pen and small note pad for note taking
Payment & Cancellation Policy:
- $199 + 5% GST due at time of booking
- workshop is weather dependent with a second back up date of Aug 23, 2020
- No refunds unless we fill your spot prior to the workshop.
- No refunds for inclement weather. We will reschedule until there is good weather.
- Full refund given if we are not able to provide the workshop (i.e. sick or injured)
