(Filters not required. Breakthrough and LEE Filters has supplied us with filters for YOU to use)

Workshop Details

Event is rain or shine.

Welcome to our Half-day Long Exposure Photography workshop, "The Art of Seeing what you Can't See" on the wild West Coast of Vancouver Island.  
Our goal with this workshop is to open your creative spirit to create amazing long exposure images right here at home on the Island and at an affordable price. 
We will also guide you through the technical workflow on how to create those beautiful long exposure images you are aiming to create.

Topics Covered

- learn the "Art of Seeing what you Can't See"
- technical workflow to create long exposure images
- how to compose long exposure images based on cloud / water direction, speed and light
- how to properly use filters to slow the shutter speed to anywhere from 1 minute to 10 minutes to create just the "right" effect
- how and when to create composite images with long exposure photography (blending 2 or more images)

Face Masks & Hand Cleaning Supplies Included

Face masks and hand cleaning supplies are included with the workshop fee if you desire.  
Due to COVID requirements, if you have been sick in the last 14 days or have been with anyone that has been sick or in quarantine for the last 14 days, please do not attend the workshop.​

BONUS!

45 minute Zoom session for each individual participant for post processing techniques on 1 image you took during the workshop.  This can be scheduled with Matt or Dave for an additional cost of $49 + GST.  ​

Hiking details:
An average physical fitness is required for walking 1-2 km for the afternoon.  If you have mobility concerns please contact myself directly for clarification.




What IS included:
- photography instruction (15 years experience)
- demo Breakthrough Photography filters and step up rings


What is NOT included:
- transportation to and from the location on Vancouver Island (near Victoria)
- medical insurance (mandatory if you reside outside of BC, Canada)
- your personal items and camera gear


What TO bring (or bring what you have):
- camera body (full frame preferred but not essential)
- 1 memory card
- wide angle lens such as 14-30mm (or close to it)
- mid range zoom such as 24-70mm or 24-105/120mm (mid range is my fav for long expos)
- lens filters (neutral density, split grads, polarizers - bring whatever you have)
- the phone app called Long Exposure Calculator by Junel S. Corales is essential for this workshop (very easy to use).  Any other simple long exposure app will do that allows you to change camera settings.
- camera bag (at least water resistant)
- camera rain cover
- lens clothes (can be misty on the coast)
- water bottle 
- rain pants
- rain jacket
- light sweater
- hiking boots (waterproof if you like to stand in the ocean when photographing)
- rain cap or hat that is waterproof
- tripod (ESSENTIAL for long exposures)
- cable release or remote for long exposure photography (ESSENTIAL to control your camera shutter speed manually in bulb setting).  Or if your camera has a "time" function, remote is optional
- pen and small note pad for camera bag


Payment & Cancellation Policy:
- $199 + 5% GST due at time of booking
- workshop is held rain or shine 
- liability waiver must be signed prior to workshop
- no refunds, unless we decide to cancel the workshop for unforeseen reasons then a 100% refund is given (i.e. we are sick or injured, a hurricane is in the area, etc.)
