Matt Shannon is an award-winning nature and landscape photographer based on the rugged west coast of Canada. His work is celebrated for its rich storytelling, vibrant detail, and deep connection to the natural world — qualities that have resonated with an international audience and led to his artwork hanging in homes around the globe. He is a passionate educator, regularly leading photography workshops that inspire and equip both emerging and experienced photographers.

Born in a small town in eastern Canada, Matt’s fascination with the wild began early — exploring dense forests and learning wilderness survival long before he picked up a camera. After high school, he set off to see the world, traveling extensively through South America, Asia, and India, and crossing North America coast to coast nine times. It was during these global journeys that Matt discovered the power of photography to share his experiences and the wonder of the world with others.

Now based on Canada’s Pacific coast, Matt continues to pursue his passion for capturing the drama and serenity of untamed landscapes. His photography reflects not only a love of the outdoors, but also a commitment to craftsmanship, patience, and authenticity. Whether photographing powerful wildlife encounters or expansive coastal vistas, Matt’s images tell stories that are both intimate and expansive — connecting viewers with the beauty of the planet and inspiring deeper curiosity and appreciation.
